Golf Classic, spring break and new coaster draws visitors
The City of Santa Clarita is proud to report that the Santa Clarita Valley boasted the highest hotel occupancy numbers in the Los Angeles area for March 2006, according to PKF Consul ting’s March edition of Trends, which provides statistics and trends of hotel room business. Santa Clarita’s March occupancy led the region at 90.32 percent, followed by West Hollywood at 88.91 percent and Los Angeles International Airport at 85.60 percent.
March was a busy month for the Santa Clarita Valley with the AT&T Classic senior golf tournament taking place March 6-12, which attracted thousands of visitors from regional California markets. In addition to the golf tournament, spring break travelers helped to keep Santa Clarita’s 10 hotel properties full, while several properties debuted newly-renovated rooms and public spaces, including the Hilton Garden Inn Valencia Six Flags, Hyatt Valencia and Comfort Suites. “March was a great month,” said Tim Aylsworth, director of sales and marketing at the Hyatt Valencia. “Our occupancy was driven by our group business and was highlighted by being the host hotel for the AT&T Classic. Spring break also helped with our weekend occupancy, which should continue to increase in the coming months with summer vacations just weeks away.”
The Santa Clarita Valley is preparing for what is expected to be yet another busy summer season. Six Flags Magic Mountain is scheduled to debut its newest roller coaster this week, Tatsu, which is being billed as the world's longest, fastest and tallest flying coaster. Additionally, three new hotel properties are scheduled to open this year, including the La Quinta Inn & Suites, Courtyard by Marriott and Embassy Suites. “Santa Clarita has become one of Southern California’s premier destinations,” said City of Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste. “In addition to world-class golf courses and theme parks, Santa Clarita is also one of the state’s most beautiful communities with a rich history, year-round calendar of events, spacious parks and extensive public trail system, allowing visitors to enjoy the area’s natural beauty.”
Just 30 minutes north of Los Angeles, Santa Clarita rests in a valley created by the confluence of the Santa Susana, San Gabriel and Tehachapi mountains. Comprising an area of 55 square miles at an average elevation of 1,200 feet, the City enjoys a mild temperate climate with an average high of 77 degrees.
