Santa Ana Winds Blow Through the SCV

The winds which gusted as high as 50 mph Monday are expected to die off today by 2 p.m....

Usually, the Santa Ana condition (or originally "Santana," the "devil wind"), occurs when the winds come from the northeast, commonly between October and March, and not necessarily when the weather is hot.  Legend says the hot, dry winds are associated with homicides and earthquakes.

At 12:23 p.m., coincidentally (or perhaps not), Monday, there was a 3.6 temblor centered 6 miles west-northwest of Valencia.  A 2.1 aftershock followed by a 2.0 temblor struck 2 hours later in succession.

There were no homicides reported in Santa Clarita Monday.
