Runners Urge Use Of Funds For 138, I-15

ImageOn Tuesday, Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) and Assemblywoman Sharon Runner (R-Antelope Valley) urged the California Transportation Commission (CTC) to reject CTC staff Proposition 1B recommendations to exclude the important Highway 138 and Interstate 15 transportation projects.

“We are urging the California Transportation Commission to support Caltrans and their regional transportation agencies recommendations to fund the transportation projects for Highway 138 and I-15,” said Senator Runner. “We strongly presented a case to reject the CTC staff’s short-sighted recommendations that will adversely affect over 100,000 commuters and further add to the gridlock on Southern California highways.”

ImageThe CTC met today to consider different recommendations to prioritize project funding from the Corridor Mobility Improvement Account of Proposition 1B.  Caltrans and their respective regional districts recommended the Highway 138 and I-15 projects.  CTC staff rejected these recommendations.

Assemblywoman Runner said, “Highway 138 and I-15 are important commuter highways that serve the fastest growing areas of the state. We strongly questioned whether staff considered future growth.  Voters were promised congestion relief and we believe staff’s recommendation will make gridlock on Southern California highways worse.”

The CTC will make their final decision on February 28, 2007.
