Runners Commend Endorsement Of Jessicas Law
San Bernardino Board of Supervisors Take Leadership Role with Jessica’s Law
Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) and Assemblywoman Sharon Runner (R-Antelope Valley) commended the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors for taking the lead in supporting their Jessica’s Law legislation with their unanimous vote taken this week.
“When we heard the news today we were thrilled,” Assemblywoman Runner said. “It takes that kind of leadership to get landmark legislation passed. I would like to especially thank Supervisor Postmus and Supervisor Ovitt for their long commitment to protecting our children.”
The Sexual Predator Punishment and Control Act (SB 588 and AB 231) strengthens punishments, expands parole periods, keeps sex offenders away from schools and places where children frequently play, provides tools for tracking and control of paroled offenders and toughens punishments for the use of “date rape” drugs, child pornography and using the internet to lure children into sex crimes. Both bills are currently sitting in the legislature and have not yet been granted a hearing.
“The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has always been supportive of good legislation that protects our families and children,” Senator Runner said. “San Bernardino is the first county to endorse this legislation and we gladly welcome their unanimous support on this legislation.”
