Runners Bill Promoting Vocational Education Passes Legislature

(SACRAMENTO) --- Promoting career technical education as an important part of a student’s education, Senator George Runner’s (R-Antelope Valley) legislation has unanimously passed the Legislature.

Senate Bill 875 would incorporate career technical education into the After School Education and Safety Program.

“This bill emphasizes the importance of vocational education in preparing young Californians for success in the workforce and to recognize it as an honorable option for students,” said Runner.

Senate Bill 875 would expand the educational enrichment component of the After School Education and Safety Program to include career technical education.  This legislation is sponsored by the Automotive Repair Coalition and has received wide support from the California Business Education Association, California Police Activities League, Association of California School Administrators, California Industrial and Technology Education Association, Junior Leagues of California, among many others.

“It’s important to integrate career education as a viable and honorable option for students to participate in.  By incorporating vocational education into after school curriculum, it will make students aware of careers that they may not be currently exposed to,” said Senator George Runner.

Senate Bill 875 passes unanimously with a 40-0 vote.  It now heads to the Governor’s office for a signature.
