Resolution: Not Enough Water

A new board majority of the Newhall County Water District is considering a resolution that would effectively declare the valley’s water supply insufficient for any new construction within the agency’s boundaries...

    On a 4-1 vote Thursday evening, the NCWD board delayed for two weeks its decision on the resolution, which states that the agency “has no confidence in” figures presented in the valley’s Urban Water Management Plan.  
    Board member Barbara Dore cast the dissenting vote.
    NCWD, which provides water to Newhall, Castaic, and the Pinetree section of  Canyon Country, had helped craft and endorse the water plan in 2000.
    The water plan forecasts water supply and demand from existing residents and new development.
    The board’s new resolution would lower the estimation of current water supplies, the net effect being that NCWD is actually providing more water today than figures show it has...
