Residents To Weather Spotters

Learn how to assist weather forecasters, and become a weather spotter.

Sponsored By:

Sheila R. Veloz

The National Weather Service will be conducting a Weather Spotter Training and Recruitment in Santa Clarita on Monday, September 10th.  The free training session will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public.

The National Weather Service Spotter Program is a volunteer organization of people with an interest in the weather.  Whenever significant weather is occurring, weather spotters call in a report to the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.  The reports provide important ground truth for forecasters to improve forecasts and warnings.

As a trained weather spotter, you can provide an invaluable service to the National Weather Service. The training session will last one hour, including latest information on fire danger due to lack of rainfall as well as a question and answer session at the end.

Information presented will include various severe weather hazards as well as background information about the National Weather Service.

To R.S.V.P., please call Curt Kaplan at (805) 988-6615 ext. 461, and leave a message with your name and phone number. The National Weather Service looks forward to meeting with you at the training session.
