Selected for a variety of leadership improvements over a five-year period
Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center has been selected for the 2005 Solucient 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leaders(r) award. This award is a great testament to the physicians, nurses and all of the employees who have worked so hard to improve patient care. This is a first time "Top 100" Award for PSJMC. Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center is one of only 20 hospitals nationwide in the category of “large community hospitals with 250+ acute care beds” to be honored.
Providence Saint Joseph was recognized for "improving hospital-wide performance over the last five years at a substantially faster rate that peers across the United States." Of the 100 hospitals honored nationwide in a variety of categories, Providence Saint Joseph is one of only three hospitals in California to be recognized.
Providence Saint Joseph was selected for this honor for a variety of leadership improvements over a five-year period, including:
* Having fewer-than-expected patient complications, deaths and adverse safety events.
* Improving financial stability.
* Discharging patients two-thirds of a day earlier than five years ago.
* Increasing expenses well below the national average
* Growing patient volume while hospitals on average decreased their patient volume.
A number of events are planned during the next two weeks as Providence honors their nurses and staff during Nurses Week (this week) and Hospital Week (next week).
Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center also extends congratulations to the team at Little Company of Mary-San Pedro Hospital, which is the only other hospital in L.A. County to receive this award. Of the 27 Providence hospitals in six states, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center and Little Company of Mary-San Pedro Hospital are the only two that made the list.
