Pro Tennis Coming To Santa Clarita

Paseo Club to play host.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that The Paseo Club will host the second annual USTA Pro Circuit Men’s $50,000 Challenger of Santa Clarita on April 7-15.  The tournament is the valley’s largest professional tennis event and attracts many players fresh from the Pacific Life Open.

The field will feature 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams.   Players ranked as high as No. 50 in the world typically compete in challenger-level events.  Last year’s tournament was highlighted by a final match between Frederic Niemeyer and Benjamin Becker.  Becker is now best known for defeating Andre Agassi at the US Open—his last as a professional tennis superstar.  Other players who competed in The Paseo Club’s inaugural professional tournament included Eric Butorac (no. 42), Jaime Murray (no. 43), Sam Querrey (no. 67), Robert Kendrick (no. 87), Kevin Kim (no. 121), and Justin Gimelstob (no. 106).

Benefiting the tennis teams from many of Santa Clarita Valley’s local schools, a ticket sales contest is currently in progress.  Up to 50% of the dollars raised will be redirected by The Paseo Club back to each of the school’s sports program.  Highlighted event activities include a Pro/Am round robin allowing eligible club members and community participants to test their tennis skills against some of the sport’s top tennis professionals, a welcome barbeque and a tennis drill for hundreds of children of all ages.

For ticket or sponsorship information, please contact Brad Sceney at The Paseo Club at (661) 257-0044.
