Power Out to 456 Homes Since Saturday Night
At approximately 6:35pm Saturday, electrical power went out in Canyon View Estates and the surrounding area of Canyon Country, including KHTS. The outage was due to Canyon View Estates electricians that were working and caused a flashover in a transformer.
Edison repairmen came out and repaired the circuit and restored power to the surrounding area and one street of the Estates. Canyon View electrician began to work again and caused a 'failure to the main circuit system'. At this point, Edison had to ‘de-energize’ the system in order for full repairs to be made.
At 3:30pm Monday, Edison representatives stated that they are ready to ‘re-energize’ but Canyon View Estates must first make their repairs. Edison media representatives stated that full power could be restored “much later tonight”.
The City of Santa Clarita has been out to look over the situation. The Red Cross was contacted by the City Services to see if they could be of service.
Several residents have called KHTS to advise us of their situation. There are several elderly residents with health problems. The usual situations that would occur such as loss of refrigeration, are affecting everyone. In many of the homes there is a lack of water because the water has to be electrically pumped. Many residents have resorted to going to hotels or relative’s homes. One resident, Ben Turner said, “The owner has been very, very slow in responding to this problem.”
Stayed tuned to KHTS for further updates.
