At approximately 12:15pm a small plane made an emergency landing in the Santa Clara riverbed in Canyon Country.
KHTS’ Carl Goldman and Sharon Bronson reported from the landing site within minutes of the landing. The pilot and his passengers, including a dog, seemed to be in good condition. The plane landed in the riverbed between Langside and Calla Way, off of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country.
The plane started to sputter and as the pilot, John Gardo, said, “the engine quit”. They circled for just a couple of minutes and then landed quickly. When asked when he knew they were in trouble, the passenger, Kevin, said, “I knew when we landed.”
The pilot has been flying for over 50 years. The pilot was on route home to Redding after flying out of the San Fernando Valley.
Within minutes of the crash Santa Clarita emergency personnel were on the scene. Sheriff’s, the fire department and paramedics all responded.
