Maria Gutzeit Makes Vision Known At First Fundraiser
She vows to focus on the big picture
On Wednesday evening, a fundraiser was thrown for City Council candidate Maria Gutzeit.
The fundraiser was thrown by Valencia Acura owners Don and Cheri Fleming, along with Larry and Peggy Rasmussen.
Gutzeit is already seasoned in the political game, having served as the President of the Newhall County Water District Board of Directors since 2003.
When she addressed the crowd at the fundraiser, she noted the major issues like safety and community preservation, however, she said that more importantly, she believes people want to know how they can ensure they get an elected official who can achieve those things for them.
“I talked about looking for people who know how to build consensus, that have a big picture view of things…looking for people that don’t cave in to scrutiny…I think its really important that we look past campaign mailers and really look for who can do a good job in office,” she said.
Gutzeit seems to have a reputation for not being particularly bound to any political side. This was mentioned as she was being discussed as one of the top five candidates vying to be appointed to take Cameron Smyth’s place when he vacated his seat in December.
And that issue by issue approach is what Gutzeit strives for. “I’m very proud of that,” she said. “It’s important to have somebody that has a balance and will weigh all sides and try to come up with a solution that will work with everyone rather than just being a yes or no vote.”
