Man Burned in Castaic House Fire
A 30-year-old man suffered serious burns to his face and arm in a fire at a Castaic construction site early Friday morning. The fire in a yellow wooden rear house structure at 27626 Violin Canyon Road was reported at 6:41 a.m. as smoke drifted into an adjacent apartment complex. Four fire engines from Battalion 6 responded. The structure’s occupant, Aristillo Onofre, suffered second- and third-degree burns to his face and right hand and forearm. Onofre was transported to the Grossman Burn Center of the Sherman Oaks Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. Through a translator, Onofre told officials that he was awakened by a burning sensation to his hand and the smell of smoke. “He went to bed last night, everything was fine, but when he woke up this morning, his house was filled with smoke,” said Lt. Larry Gump of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The structure was destroyed in the fire. Damage estimates were unavailable Friday and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
