Lockheed Federal Credit Union Player of the Week

Congratulations to Shannon Murakami of SaugusHigh School for being selected as “Spring Athlete of the Year”.

Murakami a Saugus sophomore posted 4:50.59 in the 1,600 at league finals last May 6.  At the time, that was the fastest time in the state for the season.  She also recorded 10:47.42 in the 3,200 at that meet.  After league finals, Shannon improved her times in both the 1,600 and 3,200 to earn a pair of first-place medals in the CIF-Southern Section Division I Championships at CerritosCollege.  At the Masters Meet the following week, Murakami focused on the 3,200 and raced to a first-place finish in a personal-best time of 10:34.75.  She did make a run for the title at the state championship in Sacramento by passing four runners in the final lap, but the top three proved to be elusive and she took fourth place.  This is quite a feat for an athlete with two years of high school track and field ahead of her.
