Local Schools to Receive New Revenue Through Equalization Funding

Runner's Authored Legislation for Equalization Funding for K-12 and Community Colleges

(SACRAMENTO) --- As a long-time advocate for K-12 and community college equalization funding, Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) authored measures to authorize additional revenue for K-12 and community college equalization funding.

"Equalization funds will provide needed additional revenue to our local schools.  Millions of dollars in additional revenue for our schools will help give our students the same tools other schools have," said Senator Runner.

Runner joint-authored Senate Bill 1358 with Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) which would authorize the $350 million in equalization funds for K-12 schools and co-authored Senate Bill 361 with Senator Jack Scott (D-Pasadena) authorizing $160 million in equalization funds for community colleges.  The equalization provisions in these bills were enacted as a part of the budget and passed in Assembly Bill 1802, which is the education trailer bill.
