Local Assistance Center Offers Fire Victims Financial Help

Local fire victims get a helping hand from FEMA

ImageAfter the smoke has settled here in the Santa Clarita Valley, many people are returning back to their neighborhoods, to see their homes again.  Although we have been very fortunate in saving many homes, and not losing any lives to the fire,  15 homes were destroyed.  That means that 15 families will have to start anew.

Because this is a federally-declared disaster, FEMA may be able to provide residents with recovery assistance.

In order to help all the victims of the fires, the City of Santa Clarita along with LA County Supervisor Michael Antonovich has set up a local assistance center.  The center is designed to help residents with the loads of paperwork that they need to fill out for FEMA.  The center is open five days a week, and is being held at two locations.

While FEMA can offer victims temporary assistance, if the resident needs more permanent financial help they can turn to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

SBA offers a wide variety of financial assistance, from Mitigation Loans (to three types of Disaster Loans.
