The Foothill Fire remained calm Monday night as firefighters held their lines in Sand Canyon. On the other side of the fire, the terrain in Sylmar is proving difficult. Good news coming out of this morning’s briefing is that Placerita Canyon may open up tonight to residents, however downed power lines need to get cleaned up and taken care of before that can happen. Officials also set their goals of establishing a better perimeter around the fire and to move it back 100-200 feet, while getting to hot spots and putting them out. The area is so dry that fuel could burn for 100 hours. Firefighters are also aware of spotting owl nesting areas that have been singed by the fire.
