LA Galaxy To Play In Santa Clarita

ImageThe Michael Hoefflin Foundation has teamed up with the Los Angeles Galaxy and Columbus Crew to present a professional match on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 5:00pm.  The game will be played at Cougar Stadium at College of the Canyons (COC), located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.  All proceeds from the game will benefit the Michael Hoefflin Foundation.

The game is open to the public and general admission tickets are available at $15 for adults and $10 for youth 18 and under.  A limited number of tickets may be available for purchase at the game, but advanced purchase is encouraged.  During the game, spectators will also have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction on autographed memorabilia provided by both teams.

The Foundation is working with both teams to organize the game in an effort to raise funds to help fight children’s cancer and to bring a taste of Major League Soccer action to the Santa Clarita Valley.

“Major League Soccer is a growing sport in the United States and it is incredibly popular here in the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Dianne Van Hook, board member for the Foundation and COC president.  “The Foundation hopes that we can take the community’s passion for the game and help support families who are facing a terrible battle with childhood cancer.  There are only thirteen MLS teams, and two of them will be playing right here for a great cause!”

The Michael Hoefflin Foundation is a public non-profit 501 (c) (3) foundation that provides financial and emotional support to children and their families facing childhood cancer in the Santa Clarita and surrounding valleys.  The Foundation strives to educate the public and provide grant funding for innovative research to accelerate progress in the fight against pediatric cancer. Currently the Foundation serves nearly 200 families actively struggling with pediatric cancer, with new referrals coming in weekly.

“The Los Angeles Galaxy has been a long-time supporter of the Foundation, attending a benefit dinner with local soccer fans for the past eight years.  This game will give thousands of local soccer enthusiasts the opportunity to come watch some of their favorite MLS players compete in their own back yard,” said Scott Schauer, Executive Director of the Michael Hoefflin Foundation.

Support for the game is coming from the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Columbus Crew, and College of the Canyons, as well as local AYSO chapters, soccer stores, KHTS AM 1220, and local schools.
