Kings Re-Sign Center Eric Belanger to One-Year Contract

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have re-signed restricted free agent center Eric Belanger to a one-year contact, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.  Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.

Belanger, 28, set new career highs for goals (17), points (37), penalty minutes (62) and shooting percentage (14.3 percent) in 65 games with the Kings this past season.  In addition, the 6-0, 188-pound native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, also tied a career high with 20 assists.  Belanger - who skated in his 300th Kings/NHL game at Minnesota on February 7, 2006 - also had a career best six-game scoring streak (4-4=8 during the
streak) that lasted from November 11-22, five multi-point games and a pair of three-game goal streaks with the Kings this past season.

Originally selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (96th overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Belanger has 150 points (63-87=150) and 169 penalty minutes in 323 career regular season NHL games and five points (1-4=5) and six penalty minutes in 20 career post-season NHL games with the Kings.

Prior to turning pro, Belanger recorded 240 points (86-154=240) in 192 career regular season games with Beauport (1994-97) and Rimouski (1996-97) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.  In addition, he recorded 14 points (5-9=14) and 25 penalty minutes in 18 career QMJHL post-season games (all with Beauport following the 1994-95 regular season).
