Island of the Blue Dolphin by Emily Miller

Good Morning KHTS listeners!  Hi! My name is Emily Miller and I am a 4th grader
in Mrs. Schneider’s class at Mitchell Elementry School in the Sulphur Springs
School District.

I’ll be reviewing Island of the Blue Dolphin written by Scott O’Dell.  It was
written in 1960 and is 181 pages long.

Island of the Blue Dolphin tells a story about a Native American girl, Karana,
who jumps out of a boat to save her brother, Ramo.  He soon dies from an attack
by a pack of wild dogs.  Karana then raises the leader of the pack.  She named
him Rontu because of his yellow eyes.  She also raises more animals later in
the story.

After many years living alone on the island, missionaries came to take Karana
and her pets to Santa Barbara.

If you like this book, read on and learn more about Karana and her animals.  My
opinion about Island of the Blue Dolphins is that Karana shows a lot of
independence and courage to protect herself while living on the island.

Other readers should read Island of the Blue Dolphins because it shows both
bravery and fearlessness.

Thank you for listening!
