Interfaith Council Sponsors Prayer

National Day of Prayer aims to bring SCV together.

On Thursday, May 3, 2007, the Santa Clarita Interfaith Council will sponsor a National Day of Prayer event at 12 noon in front of City Hall (23920 Valencia, Blvd., Valencia.)

The public is invited to celebrate our community’s rich religious diversity by joining many of our faith communities sharing in their own prayer tradition. Prayers will be offered from the Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Native American and Pagan traditions.

“Santa Clarita is a city rich with religious diversity founded in our various faith traditions.  Practicing religious tolerance individually and collectively will help ensure that all members of our community will be treated with dignity, respect and justice,” said, Pastor George McLeary, president of the Santa Clarita Valley Interfaith Council.

“Please join us as we unite in a spirit of friendship to pray for our local and national elected officials on the National Day of Prayer,” added McLeary.

Faith communities belonging to the SCV Interfaith Council include: Bahai’s of Santa Clarita, The Church of Hope (ELCA), Congregation Beth Shalom, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Friendly Valley United Methodist Church, Or Emet – A Jewish Congregation, Santa Clarita Valley Pagan Network, Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Methodists, Santa Clarita Church of Religious Science, Unitarian Universalists, and Valencia United Methodist Church.

The program is free and open to the public.  For more information call (661) 298-3890.
