I-5 Southbound Lane Reopens - Northbound Lanes Remain Closed
GRAPEVINE PASS (North of Santa Clarita near Gorman) – The California
Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that southbound I-5 at
Grapevine Road exit near Gorman reopened today at approximately 3:30 p.m. A continuous evaluation and remediation of a hazardous materials
spill remaining on the northbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) continues by
Los Angeles County Health Hazmat. The estimated re-opening of northbound
I-5 remains at 7 p.m. today. All lanes of northbound I-5 are closed at
Parker Road in Castaic.
Northbound motorists are being detoured off of the freeway at Parker
Road and back onto southbound I-5.
SUGGESTED DETOURS FOR NORTHBOUND I-5:
Northbound I-5 to westbound 126 to northbound 101.
Northbound 14 to westbound 58 to northbound 99
The spill was caused by a double big-rig accident carrying hazardous materials, which closed all northbound and all southbound lanes of the Golden State Freeway early this morning.
