During the week November 17, 2008, AM-1220 KHTS featured the Hunger Defense Fund on the KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight, which is hosted by Janice Murray .
The Non-Profit Spotlight airs every Monday and Friday at 10AM on AM-1220 KHTS. There are hundreds of single moms, single dads, working poor families, singles and senior citizens living in the Santa Clarita Valley who struggle to meet the needs of day to day living due to low incomes. The Hunger Defense Fund served over 2,800 needy children and their families at their Santa Clarita food bank in 2006. The goal at Hunger Defense Fund is to give a hand up, not a hand out. As the need in our community continues to rise, so does their need for food donations to keep their shelves stocked. They also distribute to orphanages in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala where they have representatives in each of these countries that see to it that the supplies sent go directly to those in need.
Hunger Defense Fund has a Distribution Center in Santa Clarita, California were they distribute food, clothing, personal hygiene items, vitamins, over the counter medicines, toys, diapers etc. each week to needy individuals and their families. They currently have hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their time, talents and strengths. Hunger Defense operates with minimal overhead. 99 cents of every dollar donated goes to their programs.
We want to thank the Wendi Lancy for being with us at the KHTS studios in Canyon Country.
