Harry Welch Wins Coach Of The Year

Award comes after State Championship season.

Harry Welch, the iconic head football coach of the Canyon Cowboys, has been named Coach of the Year by the California Coaches Association (CCA).  The CCA not only includes high school coaches but those from Division 1 college football and the NFL as well.

"It is a once in a lifetime achievement," Welch said.  "Some of the greatest coaches in all of California in all sports have been recognized by this prestigious organization."

Welch helped earn national prominence for his football team when they defeated Concord De La Salle, the No. 1 high school football team in America according to USA Today, 27-13 in the California Division 1 state football championship.  It was the first time in 87 years the state has held such a championship football game.  Welch will receive his award at a ceremony on Saturday, June 16th, at the Irvine Hilton.
