The project was scheduled to be completed this month and the City kept its promise
The City of Santa Clarita is proud to announce the opening of the Bouquet Canyon Road Bridge Widening Project, a two-and-a-half year construction development that is now open for travel. The $5.5 million project was scheduled to be completed this month and the City kept its promise -- widening the bridge from six to eight lanes and adding a protected bike trail on the east side.
In celebration, the City will host a grand opening event with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. at the bridge directly behind Chi Chi’s Restaurant. Mayor Laurene Weste and the Santa Clarita City Council will be joined by funding partner representatives including Bob Haueter, representing Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich’s 5th District for Los Angeles County; Steve Zimmer, Executive Vice President from Newhall Land; and Kirk Cessna, Office Chief for Local Assistance from Caltrans. Community and business leaders will also be present to celebrate the completion of this major capital improvement project, which began in January 2004.
“A rock slope to protect the north abutment from flooding damage is still being constructed,” said Harry Corder, Senior Engineer. “After its completion, a northern bike trail will be completed by August.”
