Free “Roundup” of Hazardous Waste Products Planned In SCV

On Saturday, November 4th, the County of Los Angeles, partnered with The City of Santa Clarita will be collecting hazardous waste products free of charge.

The Roundup will occur at College of the Canyons in the south parking lot and will accept such things as antifreeze, car batteries, used motor oil, paint and pesticides. Universal waste, including household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and electronic waste such as TVs and computers will also be accepted.

Mayor Laurene Weste insists that: “The improper disposal of hazardous waste poses a public health threat. By participating in these free, convenient Roundups, we are able to help do our part to avoid serious pollution problems that could result if these items end up in our landfills.”

In the case of the Roundups, the environmental impacts are twofold. In addition to properly disposing of the waste, it is also extensively recycled. 8o percent of hazardous waste and 100 percent of electronic waste is able to be recycled.
