The fire expanded in its northeast corner, near Tweedy Lake, threatening a communication tower on Leibre Bridge, the Tweedy Lake Club, Sawmill Mountain Deer Lodge, as well as a number of residents.
Seven fixed-wing tanker aircraft and three large helicopters were being used on the blaze during the day. Investigators believe an arsonist started the Lake Hughes-area blaze.
An estimated 1,770 firefighters from various agencies have been battling the flames which were aggravated last night when winds pushed northward across Pine Canyon Road, in an area known as Three Points, some nine miles west of Lake Hughes.
