Here’s the latest weekly update on the Ewart Family. In the early morning on Tuesday, December 20th, fire destroyed their Valencia home. Six family members were in the house at the time, three were seriously injured and sent to the Grossman Burn Center. David and Michael Ewart were in the most serious condition. David was the final family member to be released from the Grossman Burn Center, weeks after the fire. Since the fire, our Valley has jumped in to assist as the Ewart’s recover. This is the latest update courtesy of neighbors, Josy and Steve Block.
MICHAEL has added a new doctor's office to his Physical Therapy repertoire - he is now visiting Vargo (local, here in Valencia), where David has been spending much of his days. While Michael will continue with his therapists in Burbank, this will reduce the number of times per week that he will have to travel to the Valley. Michael seems to enjoy the full range of "toys" at the new office - it is described as a "fancy sports gym". This week his appointment was at the same time as David's, so they got to "play" together. A nice little father-son bonding time. One of the things Michael liked best was being able to view the Baseball League on the TV there. He continues to go to occupational and physical therapy 5-6 times a week. His back continues to have open spots but they are clearing up a little. Michael's picture was in the Daily News on Saturday! Last Friday he participated in a Math contest sponsored by Lockheed and the Antelope Valley College. He and his partner Jason Chew took 1st place in the Freshman-Sophomore Division. Hart also won the Junior-Senior Division. Go HART!!!
DAVID continues with his therapies to strengthen his muscles and work on his fine motor skills. The last several times we have seen him, he has been dutifully wearing his sweat tank (otherwise known as his pressure garment). When he goes in for his physical therapy sessions, they like him to remove the pressure suit - which is music to David's ears - he is more than happy to oblige! LOL
Via Escovar Garage Sale - Attached is a flyer pertaining to this weekend's garage sale. Unless it is pouring rain, we are scheduled to proceed. On Saturday night, March 11th, we attended the Vince Falzone CD Release Benefit party. It was a very entertaining evening, listening to the versatility of Vince and his talented band. The evening was a huge success and we want to thank Vince and his wife, Lily, for all their efforts in coordinating this benefit. We also want to thank the Canyon Theater Guild for providing the venue/staff to make this event a success. As an added bonus, we had the pleasure of seeing (and hearing) David play his violin!!! David had the opportunity to play a couple of songs that he had practiced earlier in the week with Vince - and much to everyone's delight, he was able to improv a couple of unplanned songs. It was amazing! Not a dry eye in the house!! (Or if there was, I couldn't see them past my own watery eyes).
In other news, the Hart Swim Team Bowling Fundraiser was another great event! There were 85 swimmers, parents, siblings, coaches and friends that turned out for the night. They were able to make a nice donation to the Catastrophe Fund. The best part was when Monica Bellows put her hand in the raffle barrel and pulled out Michael's name on the raffle ticket! She couldn't believe it! He won 4 Regal Movie Theater tickets!
Coming up this weekend (Sunday 3/19) is the Comedy Benefit Show at JR's Comedy club in Marie Callendars. Who wants to play a game? Zoe from Spokane had a fun idea for one of the scrapbooks...If you had to describe David with just ONE WORD, what would it be? Send it along via email & we'll incorporate it into a fun part of his scrapbooks. Don't hold back, and try to pick the word that best describes him as he really is. Have fun with it!!! We'll share the words (but not the names of who submitted it) with the group.
