The Ewart Family Community Donation Day.

Last year the Ewart family suffered a massive tragedy when their house burnt down after their annual Christmas party.  This year they would like to help give back to the community that helped support them!

They will be hosting a life saving blood drive on Wednesday December 27, 2006, from 12:00pm until 6:00pm along with collecting food, clothes, and smoke detectors (with batteries) for the SCV Emergency Winter Shelter. All the household items collected will be donated to the SCV residents in need. Michael Ewart the young man who was badly burned in the fire last year, will be collecting the smoke detectors and batteries for his new foundation ME SAFe.

His mission is to bring fire awareness, smoke alarms & batteries to families in need.

The event will be held at the  Valencia Hills Home Owners Association Clubhouse; 24060 Oak Dale Dr.,  Valencia, CA 91355.

Call Josy block at 661-254-8412 to schedule an appointment or email Blocktalk@pacbell.net

This is being brought to you by Valencia Hills Home Owners Association in conjunction with the Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Winter Shelter and the Providence Blood Donor Center.

The Providence Blood Donor Center exists to meet the transfusion needs of patients and to serve the community as part of the Providence Health System San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys Service Area.  Since blood is a vital resource that requires constant replenishment, the Blood Donor Center depends on the active participation of community members to meet the needs of its patients.

As one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States, the Santa Clarita Valley is increasingly challenged to fund the social services required by its rapidly developing society. With public funds scarce for social programs, the Santa Clarita Community Development Corporation (SCCDC) has taken a primary role in meeting the needs of the hungry and homeless in this community.

The principal activity of the SCCDC is the operation of its Santa Clarita Emergency Winter Shelter (EWS). The EWS assists people with the help they need to improve their individual or family circumstances.

Open from approximately Dec.1 through March 15 each year, the EWS provides shelter, food, clothing, medical and mental services as well as other assistance and referrals to its clients.

Studies show that one person in the United States needs blood every 2 seconds.  Yet only three percent of eligible donors in Southern California actually donate their blood. The Center understands the significance that the blood supply plays on everyone’s lives. As one of the premier healthcare providers in the Northern Los Angeles County, we believe that it is our responsibility to encourage community members to take part in improving the welfare of the community.

Call the Blood Donor Center at (800) 469-9555 if you have eligibility questions. To schedule an appointment please call Josy Block at 661-254-8412 or Blocktalk@pacbell.net
