Emissions Test On Soledad

If you’re driving on Soledad Canyon Road today near Sand Canyon and you see a CHP officer directing you to the side of the road, don’t freak out. It’s a roadside emissions study that’s being conducted today by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Automotive Repair. And soon that officer pointing his finger will explain to you that it’s not mandatory.

Basically, they would like to inspect your car to get vehicle emissions data for the State. They assure you that your results will have no consequences to you and will only be used to “Evaluate the performance of California’s emissions reduction programs.”

If you decide to opt out of doing it, that’s perfectly fine. However, if you do decide to let them check out your car you’ll only be out about 10 minutes, and they will report to you any problems they see, which may give you an early idea of possible problems you’ll run into when you go to get a smog check.

The test will be on Soledad today until 3:00pm.
