Dodgers Surpass 3.5 Million Mark In Ticket Sales

Dodgers set new attendance record.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that they have surpassed the 3.5-million mark in ticket sales for the 2007 season and by doing so, the club beat last year’s record which was the fastest they have hit that mark since 1992.  The Dodgers are the only Southern California team to have reached 3.5 million fans in a single season.

“The Dodgers strive to provide a championship team and the best fan experience in baseball,” said Dodger Chief Operating Officer Marty Greenspun. “The final two months of the season are certain to be thrilling for Dodger fans and the Dodgers appreciate their continued support.”

This will mark the third consecutive season in which the Dodgers will draw 3.5 million fans and the fifth time overall. During the 2006 season, the Dodgers attracted 3,758,545 fans, the highest total in the National League and their largest single-season total ever, surpassing the previous record set in 1982, when they drew 3,608,881 patrons. The Dodgers were one of only two teams last season to draw more than 3.5 million fans during the course of the season, trailing only the Yankees.

In 53 home dates thus far in 2007, the Dodgers have drawn 2,467,488 fans, the best in the National League.  They are averaging 46,556 fans per game, the best mark in the National League and second-best in the Majors behind the Yankees. So far this season, there have been eight sellouts at Dodger Stadium and 19 crowds over 50,000. The Dodgers have had a single-game crowd of 56,000 six times this season, while only achieving that mark once last year on Opening Day (Apr 3, 2006).

Earlier this season, the Dodgers were recognized for a third consecutive year by Guinness World Records as having registered the “Highest Cumulative Attendance for a Baseball Franchise.” Since 1901, when Major League Baseball began tracking official attendance, the Dodgers have played before more fans than any other franchise in the sport’s history with a cumulative attendance in excess of 175 million.

Fans have several options for purchasing tickets to Dodger home games this season. They can purchase tickets online at dodgers.com, call 1-866-DODGERS, visit the Dodger Stadium Advance Ticket windows or any Ticketmaster retail outlet.
