Contenders Compete in Premier Boxing Event

Local Boxer Wins Golden Glove Competition

Three contenders from the Santa Clarita Community Center Boxing program competed in the 2007 Southern California Golden Glove Competition in Los Angeles, on March 13th – 17th, which crowned one local boxer a winner.

Santa Clarita Boxers, Erick Arreola, Johnathen Hays, and Mike Nolasco, competed at the Lincoln Park Recreation Center in the prestigious week long amateur boxing event against fighters from Southern California.

Arreola, who won his first two boxing matches and advanced to the finals, defeated his opponent in the third round, making him the 2007 Southern California Golden Glove champion in the 130 lbs weight division.

Nolasco was eliminated in the first stage of competition and Hays won his first fight, but was defeated in the second phase.
