LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- The First 5 LA Commission has allocated $10 million to fund a program sponsored by Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich to enhance dental health and nutrition for young children and their families in Los Angeles County.
The enhancement projects will be rolled out incrementally and focus on improving access to direct services and increasing public education promoting hygiene, good nutrition and available services. "Numerous studies confirm that proper oral health and nutrition are critical for children's development in the first five years of life," said Mayor Antonovich, Chairman of the First 5 LA Commission.
"The enhancement projects to be funded by First 5 LA will create greater access to preventive services, education, and advocacy. Education to prevent obesity and reduce the incidence of dental decay is vital for parents, foster parents and child care providers."
