Two people from Oklahoma were injured Friday morning when their truck and camper rolled over on Interstate 5. The car’s occupants, Deloris Ward and Rian Ockerman, both 43, told California Highway Patrol officers that they were traveling between 40 and 45 mph on the southbound I-5 transition to northbound Highway 14 when a gust of wind caused their camper to topple over at about 9:45 a.m. CHP Officer Christian Bond said the maximum speed allowed on that stretch of highway is 55 mph. The maroon Ford F-150 — with a front-end novelty license plate that read “RETIRED” — was towing a 27-foot trailer. The pickup truck landed on its roof and the camper on its side. Contents of the truck’s bed and the camper were spilled out onto the roadway. “Everything they own is in that vehicle,” Bond said. Ward and Ockerman were transported by ambulance to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center to be treated for minor to moderate injuries, Bond said. The travelers were on their way to Red Rock Canyon outside of Las Vegas, Nev.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
