Every year, Americans celebrate Mother’s Day, Father’s Day…even Groundhog’s Day.  The City of Santa Clarita thinks it time to honor children by celebrating a “Day for Kids.”

Families in Santa Clarita will enjoy a free kid’s carnival, open to the public on Saturday, September 15, 2007 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at Newhall Park, located at 24923 Newhall Avenue.

“The Kids Day event serves to promote meaningful time spent between children and caring adults,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean. “We hope that families in Santa Clarita will join with us to – Share a Moment, Create a Memory, and Make a Kids Day!”

Scheduled to appear is Magic Mountain’s Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, Ronald Mc Donald, School of Rock and Folklorico dancers.  Several child actors will also be on site to sign autographs. All kids will be entered in a free kids raffle for a chance to win a personal computer, bikes, gift certificates and much more!  The carnival will feature several Ferris wheels, a train ride, games, activities, contests, food and drinks – all free of charge.

From Alaska to Florida and right here in Santa Clarita, thousands of youth-serving organizations will celebrate a “Day for Kids”. The national event is lead by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and other non-profit organizations in hopes of establishing a “Day for Kids” on our nation’s calendar.

On September 11, 2007, Mayor Marsha McClean will proclaim the third Saturday in September each year as Boys and Girls Club’s Day for Kids in Santa Clarita.
