City to Offer Help for Residential Rehab Projects

Grants and Low-Interest Loans Available Through the City

The City of Santa Clarita is offering low and moderate income families an opportunity to spruce up their homes as part of an innovative Residential Rehabilitation Program funded through the Federal government. City residents may be able to repair roofs, windows, floors, carpet, heating, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, re-paint and more with grants of up to $5,000 and low-interest, deferred payments loans of up to $40,000. Eligible residents must live in the City of Santa Clarita and in most cases, the home must be owner occupied. Individual, single family homes, mobile homes and condominiums are all eligible for the program. Apartment rentals are not eligible. To qualify, City residents must be considered low or moderate income. For a family of two, the federal guidelines say they must be below $41,900 gross per year. Work not covered includes landscaping, personal property such as curtains, furniture or window air conditioners.

The City of Santa Clarita is offering the low and moderate funding program as part of its federal Community Development Block Grant program. In 2005, the City awarded 21 grants and one loans as part of the program. “The program is a great way for low and moderate income families who are home owners to do some repair work that will improve their quality of life,” explains Erin Moore-Lay, Administrative Assistant for the City of Santa Clarita.
