City to Host Community Housing Workshop
All Santa Clarita community members are invited
The City of Santa Clarita is asking its residents and community members to be a part of the drafting of a new affordable housing ordinance. A workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Century room at City Hall located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.
The workshop will be a discussion of the City’s housing element. All Santa Clarita community members are invited to discuss what is needed for existing and future residents and the preparation of an affordable housing ordinance.
“The City hired a consultant to draft this affordable housing ordinance,” said Aimee Schwimmer, City Associate Planner. “The consultant, Goldfarb and Lipman, has completed many housing ordinances throughout California and are currently working with City staff to determine what is needed to be included in a housing ordinance for Santa Clarita. We want the community to have a voice in the ordinance as well.”
Santa Clarita's Housing Element was adopted in May 2004. This Element proposed a series of nine programs to help create affordable housing in the City. Four of those programs are intended to be incorporated into an Affordable Housing Ordinance. They include affordable housing incentives, density bonuses, inclusionary housing and establishment of a Housing Bank funded with in-lieu fees.
