City Celebrates “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day”
City of Santa Clarita participating in national event
On Thursday, April 27, 2006, more than one million girls and boys across America are expected to participate in the annual “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work day”, sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women. The City of Santa Clarita is proud to once again be participating in this national event. On April 27, the City is inviting staff to bring their sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews, and other youngsters to work to learn about local government and the different jobs at City Hall. The participating children will attend a short orientation and then will be given a guided tour of City Hall. Following that, everyone will return to work, where the girls and boys can observe and even help in the conduct of regular City business. The event is scheduled to last until 12:00pm, when the participants can return either to school or home. There will be another event in the afternoon, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, to accommodate students who are participating in STAR testing during the morning hours.
“We are proud to be participating once again in ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day,’” said City Manager, Ken Pulskamp. “The City firmly believes that our children are the foundation upon which our community is built and it is important to instill in them an understanding of their important place in the community as they grow older.” “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” was designed to expand opportunities for girls and boys, expose them to what the adults in their lives do during the work day, show them the value of education, and give them an opportunity to share how they envision their future. The City would like to encourage all local organizations to participate.
