City Annexes Two New Areas
The City of Santa Clarita is pleased to welcome the communities of Northpark, and California Canyons into the City. On Wednesday, February 22, 2006 these two neighborhoods were approved to be annexed into the City by Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO). A final protest hearing were held Wednesday morning and the annexations approved by LAFCO following the meetings. The annexations will not become official until recordation, which is expected to occur within a few days. The Northpark annexation adds 5,916 residents which includes 2,113 residential units and a 90,000 square foot commercial center. California Canyons, the smallest of the newly annexed properties, includes 68 single-family residences and a population of 216. “The City is pleased that the annexations were approved by LAFCO,” said City Manager, Ken Pulskamp. “As part of the City, these developments can now benefit from the number of City enhanced services and opportunities available only to City residents.” Now annexed to the City of Santa Clarita, residents in these areas will enjoy a higher level of police services, they will be able to vote in future City Municipal Elections, and will no longer have to pay a five percent utility users tax. Residents in these three areas approached the City in recent years with the desire to become a part of the City of Santa Clarita. The addition of these two communities adds 6,000 residents to the City of Santa Clarita. Residents in both Northpark and California Canyons will see immediate increases in law enforcement. They will also be able to take advantage of priority recreation registration through the City’s Parks and Recreation department.
