City’s 3rd Annual United Way Telethon May 25th, 2006
A national organization, the United Way of America is dedicated to making a measurable impact in every community across the country by mobilizing assistance for local non-profit organizations. The United Way system includes approximately 1,350 community-based United Way organizations, each independently incorporated and governed by local volunteers. The United Way organizes fundraisers and helps individuals and groups with community interests find ways to contribute their time and talents, gives support to direct-service programs and community-change efforts, and advocates for public policy changes. “This is an evening that I look forward to every year”, said Ken Pulskamp, City Manager for the City of Santa Clarita. “I’m always amazed at how giving members of this community are. This generosity is a sign of the quality of character that the residents and businesses of Santa Clarita posses.” Pulskamp continued, “Not only does the telethon support a great cause, but it is also very exciting to watch. We have live entertainment and giveaways throughout the evening and community groups regularly stop by the studio to bring in donations and say hello to the viewers. We also spotlight some of the wonderful charities that will benefit from viewers’ donations.” The 2006 United Way Telethon will be produced live on SCVTV Channel 20 Community Access as a service of Comcast and Time Warner Cable, and will be simulcast on KHTS 1220 AM and webcast on the internet at http://santaclaritaunitedwaytelethon.org. You can also listen to a live audio broadcast of the telethon at www.hometownstation.com. To make a donation call 661-253-0082 any time during the broadcast. “While business owners in Santa Clarita are proud to participate in the United Way Telethon, in order for the telethon to be a true success, we need a significant amount of donations from the public. The more calls we receive from individuals and families, the more help we will be able to provide non-profit organizations in the City,” said Joe Caso, owner of Frontier Toyota and a major telethon sponsor. Ebe Winter of the United Way, Los Angeles commented, “Through the United Way, members of the community can make a difference right here in their own home town. Their donations go directly to any number of the many wonderful charities right here in Santa Clarita!” In addition to contributing to great charitable causes right here in Santa Clarita, donors will automatically be entered into a raffle to win some fabulous prizes. Supporters can win gift certificates to local restaurants, sports memorabilia, items autographed by celebrities, and many other exciting prizes! There will also be live performances by a variety of world class talent during the broadcast, including: Cowboy poets and balladeers Waddie Mitchell and Don Edwards, and local songstress Katie Moffat, who will each be featured during the telethon. Donations as small as $5 will go a long way toward helping non-profit organizations in Santa Clarita. Callers can designate their money to a specific charity or allow the United Way to determine the best use of funds. All donations are tax deductible.
