City’s United Way Telethon to Present Live Entertainment During Broadcast

Telethon carried live on SCVTV and simulcast on AM 1220 - KHTS

Preparations for the 3rd Annual United Way Telethon are underway and this year’s program promises to be an evening to the community will not forget. Joe Caso, owner of Frontier Toyota of Valencia, is preparing to make a major announcement during the telethon on Thursday, May 25, 2006 between 6 and 9 p.m. Santa Clarita residents can tune into SCVTV Channel 20 and watch as the United Way Telethon makes an effort to raise more than $200,000 for local charities. The Telethon will be produced live on SCVTV as a service of Comcast and Time Warner Cable.
 
It will also be simulcast live on KHTS 1220 AM and streamed live on the Internet at www.santaclaritaunitedwaytelethon.org. In addition to the fundraising portion of the evening, the Telethon will also feature live entertainment. This year's performers include: cowboy poets and balladeers, Waddie Mitchell and Don Edwards, local songstress Katie Moffat, the Santa Clarita Stars Dance Team, and many other talents. During the live cablecast, the City will also be spotlighting some of the non-profit agencies that will benefit from donors contribution including; The Foundation for Children's Dental Health, The Samuel Dixon Foundation, The Child and Family Center, The Santa Clarita Valley Boys and Girls Club, The SCV Food Pantry, Single Mothers Outreach, The Domestic Violence Center, The SCV Senior Center, Action!, and The SCV Youth Project.
Viewers and listeners can participate by calling the hotline at (661) 253-0082, during the Telethon and pledge money to the charity of their choice. The United Way ensures that every penny donated is used to its absolute maximum. All donors of $25 or more will be entered in a raffle to win prizes that include gift certificates to local businesses, signed sports memorabilia and more.
