Citizens Asked To Watch Over Measure M Funds

When Measure M passed in November, the bond assured that a Citizen Oversight Committee would be formed to make certain that all funds were used appropriately. Now, College of the Canyons is looking for people who want to do just that.

Nominations and applications are being called for now, as the college looks to begin using the $160 million the passage of the bond gave them.

The board of trustees for College of the Canyons will be making the appointment, and they released some information regarding what type of person they’re looking for.

Preferably, they want people who:

Have knowledge of the Santa Clarita Community College District.

Have knowledge of the local community.

Have knowledge of financial/budgeting matters.

Have availability to invest time to attend scheduled meetings.

Have experience in community relations and local community involvement.

Have demonstrated interest in higher education issues.

Have involvement in previous volunteer positions.

Also, by law the committee must have one member from each category:

A recognized community business organization,

A senior citizens' organization,

A bona fide taxpayers' organization,

A student government member,

A Santa Clarita Community College District advisory committee or foundation board member.

The deadline for applications is 5:00pm and February 21st, and you can find more information at canyons.edu.
