Canyon Country Neighborhood Takes On Crime
Alert residents help nab vehicle theft suspects
One adult and two juveniles were arrested in Canyon Country Friday evening after residents called to report suspicious persons who they believed were stripping parts off of a vehicle.
Before deputies arrived, the suspects fled in different directions and a containment was established. With the assistance of the Department's aero unit, deputies spotted several of the suspects inside the containment. Two were arrested without incident and a third entered a residence, causing the homeowner to flee. The homeowner flagged down deputies who arrested the third suspect without incident.
The investigation is ongoing and two other suspects are still outstanding. The vehicle, which was stolen out of Sun Valley on June 13, 2007, was recovered. Several parts had reportedly been stripped from it.
All three individuals were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. Christopher Babajas, MH/19, of Canyon Country faces a felony charge of Receiving Stolen Property. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Breaking or Removing Vehicle Parts and Trespassing. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. The juveniles, MH/15, of Palmdale and MW/15, of Canyon Country face felony charges of Receiving Stolen Property and misdemeanor charges of Breaking or Removing Vehicle Parts. They were later transported to Sylmar Juvenile Hall for housing pending future court proceedings.
