Calling All Teams! Cancer Society Relay Coming Up

Rally planned to kick off 2007 SCV Relay For Life

Captains who are organizing teams for this year’s SCV American Cancer Society Relay For Life, walkers or companies who would like to participate and local residents simply interested in learning more about Relay For Life and the American’s Cancer Society’s programs and services are invited to attend this year’s Relay Rally on Thursday, April 19th at the Spectrum Club in Valencia. You won’t want to miss out on all of the fun.

Rally is the traditional kick-off event for each year’s Relay, and gives local residents a chance to get involved with the 24-hour walking event that is the American Cancer Society’s premiere fund-raising event in the Santa Clarita Valley. This year’s Relay For Life will be held June 2-3 at Central Park and is expected to draw thousands of cancer survivors, family members, friends and others who walk to support the fight against cancer.

More than 100 guests are expected to attend this year’s Rally, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., to hear words of hope from cancer survivors and to help carry out this year’s Relay theme—Mission Possible.

“Rally is an opportunity for people to come and hear how they can make a difference in their community,” said co-chair Candy Spahr. “Rally is all about the Power of Relay.”  Teresa Kerr is the co-chair for this year’s Relay, and wants “everyone to come to Rally. Bring your whole family!” Spectrum Athletic Club is located at 24525 Town Center Drive. Rally is open to anyone interested in learning about Relay and no reservations are required.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem.  The American Cancer Society works toward that goal by preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer, and diminishing suffering from cancer by supporting research, education, advocacy and service.

Cancer information is available 24 hours a day at www.cancer.org or by calling  (800) ACS-2345. Santa Clarita Valley Relay For Life information is available by calling 298-0886, option 3, or contacting staff member Anita Dominguez at anita.dominguez@cancer.org.
