The Big Read

The Big Read will begin here in Santa Clarita on February 5th, and will go until March 30th. The Big Read is a program designed to highlight reading in the community as well as promote a particular classic book. This time, it’s Fahrenheit 451.

There are several events for you to take part in!

1. I Was Caught Reading Fahrenheit 451:  When members of the Friends of the Libraries of the Santa Clarita Valley as well as The Big Read - Santa Clarita Valley Committee see someone reading Fahrenheit 451 or have the book in hand from February 5-May 1, they will give the individual a Contest Entry Form to fill out, as well as incentives.

2. Find The Book: Copies of Fahrenheit 451 will be left in a variety of locations throughout the Santa Clarita

Valley by members of the Friends of the Libraries of the Santa Clarita Valley as well as The Big Read - Santa Clarita Valley Committee. Copies of the book will have a bright sticker on the spine to help library staff identify the book. When an individual finds the book, there will be instructions inside the book, letting them know that they need to take the book and go to one of the Santa Clarita Valley libraries to fill out an entry form to be entered into the drawing.

3. Essay Contest: Here are he rules.

The essay must be 800 words or less and must be typed.

The Big Read - Santa Clarita Valley Essay Contest Entry Form with the student’s name, address, city, zip, phone number, school, grade level, and age MUST be attached to your essay. Complete information is required to enter the contest.

Winning entries will be determined by a panel made up of members of the Friends of the Libraries of the Santa Clarita Valley and The Big Read - Santa Clarita Valley Committee.
