Auto Dealers Association Rescinds Street Name Change Request

The City of Santa Clarita announced today that the Santa Clarita Auto Dealers Association has withdrawn its request to change the street name of Magic Mountain Parkway, east of Interstate 5, and Creekside Road to reflect more auto-related names.

The City received the request from the Auto Dealers Association citing that increased awareness along Interstate 5 could raise awareness about the Santa Clarita Auto Mall, potentially increasing sales and sales tax generation. Upon receipt of the request, the City initiated a public outreach campaign to alert residents and businesses about the request, providing opportunities for them to ask questions and share comments and concerns.

Businesses and residents began to share concerns about the historic significance of the name Magic Mountain Parkway, and after examining the community’s responses, the Auto Dealers Association elected to withdraw the request, noting that they will explore alterative ways of increasing awareness of Santa Clarita’s Auto Mall.

“We adopted a position of neutrality with regard to the request, balancing the needs of the Auto Dealers Association with those of the business and residential community,” said Paul Brotzman, Director of Community Development for the City of Santa Clarita. “We’re confident that the Association will identify alternative ways to raise awareness of Santa Clarita’s Auto Mall and look forward to their continued success,” he added

All community meetings planned for January 10 and 11, 2007 at City Hall have been cancelled as a result of the withdrawal of the Auto Dealers request.
