Astronomy Day Celebration at Valencia Library
The Local Group Astronomy Club will celebrate Astronomy Day 2005 on April 16 at The Valencia Library. The theme for this years program is "Our Silvery Moon". The festivities begin at 1:00 pm with Safe Solar Observation. See sunspots and solar flares through the best telescopes in the valley. Lectures in the community room throughout the afternoon. 2:00 pm Children's Program-Build a simple telescope. 3:00 pm Kitchen Comets - Make your own comet 4:00 pm The transit of Venus from Egypt- A slide show 5:00 pm Moon Facts, Phases and Tides 6:00 pm How Big is Big-How Far is Far? Be amazed with this great lecture about relative sizes and distances in our solar system. 7:30 Night Viewing The Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter will be the highlighted sky objects for the evening. This show is for children and adults. You can ask questions of the local experts, evaluate telescopes and binoculars, and have a fun day of learning.
