Antonovich Reacts To BOBB’s Report On Sheriff Training

Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich offered the following response to the release of Merrick Bobb’s report on Sheriff training:

“Sheriff’s Department training is suffering from the sins of the past.  Budget cuts, as the report correctly points out, have not only caused training to suffer, but forced the Sheriff to play catch-up in his recruitment efforts. Training is essential and Sheriff Department staff is currently meeting the minimum training level.  Enhanced and more frequent training is nearly impossible when the Sheriff has 1,100 vacancies and overtime is largely the reason they are able to barely meet the minimum level of service. The Field Officer Training program, which will be before the Board of Supervisors on March 14, demonstrates the Sheriff’s commitment to prioritizing training.”
