Antonovich Not Happy With Agua Dulce Decision

On a 4 to 1 vote, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a modification of the conditions of approval for Special Use Permit 1404, the zoning approval for the Agua Dulce Airpark.  The Board's action allows for the construction of up to 55 hangars and 250,000 square feet of tie-down space among other uses on the Airpark property.

"In a high fire hazard zone, it is astonishing that the Board would reject adopting a requirement for fire sprinklers," said Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich.  "I am disappointed at the Board’s arrogance toward the legitimate public safety concerns raised by the residents of Agua Dulce.  During the last three years, 8 separate notices of violation have been issued at the Airpark. Yet the Board rewards the Airpark operator with a three-fold expansion -- rather than penalizing him for flagrantly and consistently ignoring County policies."

A motion by Antonovich to require fire sprinklers in new hangars, prohibit model airplane flying, and address concerns by the public was rejected by the Board of Supervisors.
