Antonovich Declares May 2005 "Mental Health Month"
At the Board of Supervisors meeting on May 10, 2005, Supervisor Michael
D. Antonovich joined the Board of Supervisors in proclaiming the month
of May 2005 as "Mental Health Month."
Mental illness affects one in five Americans every year, and
co-occurrence of mental illness and substance abuse is a significant
concern that requires integrated mental health treatment. Mental health
is a fundamental component of general health and indispensable to
personal well-being, family and interpersonal relationships, and
The Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission and the Los Angeles
County Department of Mental Health have joined the Board of Supervisors
in a focused effort to raise awareness and understanding of mental
health and mental illness during the month of May 2005.
